Google is making big changes to the way you install apps on Android phones. From this Year maybe this month, any app will be downloaded from Play Store in AAB format. Google has been planning to launch Android App Bundle (AAB) since 2018. The company is finally able to move the Play Store to AAB format.

What is AAB?

Using AAB allows you to distribute APK for a device according to its language and configuration. That is, if the customer taps the Install button, the file will be downloaded in Taylor mode. If the language of the device is English selected, you do not need to download the German or French language pack in any app. Also, if the device does not have 4K support, the 4K resource pack will not be downloaded to that device.

Why is Google starting to use AAB?
Android runs on a variety of configuration devices. And Google is starting to use AAB for a customized experience across all devices. Removing unnecessary resources from the APK will reduce the installation file size by about 15 per cent. So, it will take less time to download the file.

Also, Google will have more control over the app distribution service. This requires all third party stores to convert all APK files to AAB for app distribution. In a word, the AAB file is a customized APK file, where no unnecessary resources will be present.

How to convert APK from AAB?
When developers start uploading AAB to the Play Store, Google will convert the APK using the bundle tool and send it to the device. Not all types of resources will be present in that APK. Only the necessary resources will be available for the device to be downloaded. However, developers can create their own app's universal APK if they want.
